Art 307 Entry: Danielle

As class is currently coming to an end, I have already gained a great amount of information that I will use when creating my own web site.

Three important things that we were reminded of today: use all lower case letters and no spaces in a url name; Every web site must be spell checked before it is published; And last but not least, always label your files!

A quick tutorial about 'how to prepare your files for the web' was given to us. It is crucial that the size of an image is not too large in a site. As Colette said, "Two seconds to load a page is equivalent to a month and a half in computer time." An image should be as small as possible (yet, still be clear and visible to the viewer) so that the computer can load the page smooth and quickly.
Web page navigation should be planned out carefully because your user wants to know how to get from page to page and how to navigate within your site easily.A navigation bar at the top of each page with links to each part of the site is a good form of navigation. If there are too many pages to add to the navigation bar, "back" buttons are also a good idea.

Some design principles to use:
- Contrast is good. Make the elements of your page noticeably different. This will emphasize information that is of more importance than the rest. It also leads the viewer's eye where they are to look first.
- Repetition is important in a large site. Keep the typeface generally consistent. Style one page after another using the same design elements (unless there is an exception). This keeps the site clean and easily understandable. Otherwise, the viewer can get confused.
