Art307 ENTRY: Jaclyn

Etsy is an online marketplace that hosts personal shops of handmade designs and items to provide people the opportunity to purchase uniquely crafty creations. Basically anyone wishing to sell their handcrafted work is able to display it in a more-sophisticated-than-Ebay manner, promising a personal touch to the buyer's purchasing experience. However, upon entering the site the user may be overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin browsing. One element provided to assist the user is the Shop By Color method. By accessing this page, a flash file loads presenting a series of multicolored dots. Drag the mouse over the dots and the colors expand. By clicking a color, Etsy scours their database for objects that match the selected color.
Thumbnail images of the items corresponding to the designated color pop up and the user can drag them around the screen to sort through.

Clicking on a thumbnail enlarges the image, providing a brief description of the object and links to purchase it.
For aesthetic purposes, or perhaps for improved usability, the background can be changed to black for an altered visual experience.
If not a helpful shopping tool, this piece is entertaining to interact with, creating one-of-a-kind canvases that mimic the unique items of which are sold.
