ART 307 Entry: Danielle

Throughout this past semester in class, we have been working with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) in order to create simple web pages allowing us to learn how to formulate codes and other tools to aid in the process of web design.

While reading the Wired blog page, I noticed a very interesting topic shared by Scott Gilbertson. HTML5 is apparently a newly anticipated replacement for Flash which is currently the standard web's default video viewer. I had never heard of it until now however HTML5 is said to soon take over the ordinary HTML that all web designers are so familiar with. It will enable the use of video and audio playback, animated graphics, (which had never been possible before) the ability to store application data on your local computer, dragging and dropping files from the desktop (a feature that Macs currently have), and the ability to continue the use of browser-based app even if your internet connection drops to name a few.

I had also learned through this reading that Google's homepage, which is the #1 most trafficked pages on the web currently uses HTML5. Gmail, Google Maps, and a number of other Google apps use it as well.

Document sharing will be more easy to accomplish through HTML5 versus Flash. Twitter is another popular site that uses this particular language of web as well. Although the author claims HTML5 is still in its experimental stages, there is no doubt that it has already begun a new generation of web design.
